My favorite part of Hillary Clinton's speech last night was when she admonished her followers not to put their affection for her over the issues. When she reminded them that what's at stake is far more crucial than their loyalty to her. When she reproved them for thinking for even a moment that her historic thrilling campaign was more important than the real campaign to defeat the Republicans.
Mainstream media are now confirming, and going beyond, the initial reports of a possible assassination plot against Barack Obama and the arrest of two men.
Former President Bill Clinton's speech at the Democratic National Convention in Denver Wednesday night will be broadcast on a five-second delay similar to that used to screen callers on talk radio programs, party officials confirmed today.
What is the best way to dissect the recently concluded Summer Games in blovatious Beijing?
With McCain hovering around the Southwest, Carly Fiorina, the female face of the McCain campaign, actually holding a press conference for convention press here in Denver this morning, and GOP all-stars cycling through all week, the latest McCain video looks to specifically heighten tension between Hillary supporters and the Obama campaign at the DNC.
So McCain is rich. Or, his wife is rich, and that makes him rich too. Wasn't there some movie where Dudley Moore was engaged to a women with megabucks, and he kept getting drunk and introducing her to people as my 'financier' (instead of fianc??e)?
Does it always - ALWAYS - have to be about the Clintons?
The Democrats are swarming into Denver. Now they just have to take the rest of the country (while hanging on to Denver). The mile high city is filled with hopeful anticipation - and thousands of delegates, protesters, lobbyists, journalists from the new as well as the old media, souvenir dealers, souvenir hunters, and camp followers of every sort. For the Democrats, happy times are here again. We've heard this song before, of course.
DENVER -- Best line of the day...so far:
So Joseph Biden, unlike Obama, is supposed to be a foreign policy guru. But his previous position on the most pressing issue of the day -- the war in Iraq -- is disturbing, if not downright muddleheaded.
Me neither. So I made up a few. Try some of your own -- and yes, I know he may have more than seven houses. Some say it's as many as twelve. He doesn't know. But don't you think seven's a funnier number? So here we go (with apologies to the memory of Joey Adams.)
One of the most amazing things about the stir caused by the recently leaked HHS proposal is how little, make that no, effort has been made to investigate whether the claim by the anti-abortion establishment about the mode of action of hormonal birth control is even true.
John McCain said it first: "In the 21st century nations don't invade other nations." George W.
I'm a huge gymanstics fan, so beyond the excitement of the women -- who always get tons of press coverage -- it was great to see the men do so well, especially after injuries sidelined the Hamm brothers.
Politicians lie. The National Enquirer pays for information. The mainstream media is falling out of touch with America.
The good news for Obama heading into the Democratic National Convention next week is that he continues to lead McCain in the national polls by 45% to 42% among likely voters, according to a recent poll taken by WSJ/NBC.
"FightTheSmears.com"? Not good enough. It's time for "StartSomeShit.Com."
During my most recent visit to watch baseball at Boston's Fenway Park, I consumed a chili cheese dog, a sleeve of fries, buttery popcorn and a beer -- actually, more than one. At Beijing's Wukesong Basketball Stadium today I settled for a Coke Zero and yogurt.
The Dark Knight, matching America's dark mood, has swiftly rocketed up to the #2 position on the all-time domestic box office list.
Stephanie Tubbs Jones was a BIG woman. She was big in her smile, in her motherly warmth, in her blackness, in her womanhood, her passion for Cleveland and in her political smarts. I am grieving her loss today.
"Never before has our nation seen such destruction by nature."
Dear Mainstream Media,
Rather than face impeachment, Pakistan's disgraced President Pervez Musharraf finally resigned. So ends (more or less) America's first post-9/11 bilateral era with Pakistan, and the scorecard is utterly mixed at best with ominous prospects for the second era under Pakistan's newly-elected democratic government.
Republicans and self-styled "Christians" are agog over what Andrea Mitchell of NBC characterized as the "crisp, immediate, forceful response" John McCain gave to Rick Warren's question about evil during the forum at the Saddleback Church. They dismiss Barack Obama's "more nuanced approach."
Obama's campaign is really smart. They have the blogging and media communities jumping at every flick of the Obama campaign's collective pinky -- wondering what this gesture or that might reveal about who will be selected as Obama's running mate.
Sometimes, it's simply remarkable just how worthless our media is when it comes to putting remarks into perspective, especially in the context of politics, particularly presidential politics. It's hard not to wonder whether they are professional stenographers who sometimes double as journalists.
Shortly after Barack Obama and John McCain finished their sit-down interviews with Rev. Rick Warren, the analysis began. I was flipping through channels and a bevy of talking-head squares appeared on CNN, looking like the political version of "The Brady Bunch."
People who want Obama to win are heartened by his post-Hawaii willingness to object to McCain's tone, and to deplore McCain's ad hominem attacks on his patriotism and motivation, which Obama continued on Tuesday in his VFW speech. But it ain't enough.
A week doesn't go by in my district offices without some constituent, often several, calling in a panic about a personal health care crisis. These calls come not only from people who aren't insured, but increasingly from those who are -- or think they are. Most of the time, they are shocked and furious that, now that they actually need the coverage, their policies don't seem to apply.
